How do you convert square meters to square feet?

Multiply square meters by 10.7639 to get square feet (or divide square feet by 10.7639 to get square meters). Example: 10 m² × 10.7639 = 107.64 ft². The factor is the length factor squared: 1 m = 3.28084 ft, so 1 m² = 3.28084² = 10.7639 ft².

One square meter is about 10.7639 square feet, so:

square feet = square meters × 10.7639 (and square meters = square feet ÷ 10.7639)

Handy reference points:

Square metersSquare feet
1 m²10.76 ft²
10 m²107.64 ft²
50 m²538.20 ft²
100 m²1076.39 ft²

Area factors are the length factor squared. Because 1 m = 3.28084 ft, one square meter is 3.28084 × 3.28084 = 10.7639 ft² — not 3.28. That squaring is the step people most often miss when converting areas.

Work it out: the square footage calculator reports area in ft², yd², m², and acres at once, so you can read the metric and imperial area side by side.
