How do you convert feet to meters?

Multiply feet by 0.3048 to get meters, because one foot equals exactly 0.3048 meters (or divide meters by 0.3048 to get feet). Example: 10 ft × 0.3048 = 3.048 m. A quick field estimate is feet ÷ 3.28, which lands within a few millimeters.

Source: Unit conversion (1 ft = 0.3048 m) · Verify against your AHJ and the adopted code edition.

One foot is exactly 0.3048 meters, so:

meters = feet × 0.3048 (and feet = meters ÷ 0.3048)

Handy reference points:

FeetMeters
1 ft0.3048 m
8 ft2.438 m
10 ft3.048 m
100 ft30.48 m

The factor is exact by definition: 1 inch = 25.4 mm, so 1 ft = 12 × 25.4 = 304.8 mm = 0.3048 m. For a rough estimate, “feet ÷ 3.28” gets you within a few millimeters.

Work it out: the feet-inch-fraction converter turns 10' (or a mixed 10' 6") into meters, millimeters, and decimal feet — no factor to remember.
